Question:
I would like to hear from anyone who started at 500 or more
I had my surgery in Sept of 2000 I have only lost 157 lbs. @5 of that was from a TT and 15 from a leg debulking of the legs for which I have lymphedema. I would like to hear from anyone else who started around this wt and their amounts. Thanks Carol — Carol M. (posted on July 26, 2002)

Hello Carol,
I started off almost at 500 lbs. I was at 491. I had my surgery Jan 23,
2002, and as of July 17th, I have lost 141 pounds. I also have lymphedema
in both my legs. The left leg is much bigger than my right. I have
continuned with the mld therapy, and that has helped my legs a lot. My pcp
recommended that I continue with it because last time I was discharged my
legs flared up, with the swelling, and awful pain. I was wondering, what is
debulking? I have not heard of this before. I have asked my PT about the
loose skin that is on my calves now, it's more of wrinkly, shrunken looking
skin. I was told that lymphedema patients shouldn't have any surgery, cuts,
etc., on the affected limb, to avoid cellulitus infections, or further
aggrevating the condition. I went for my 6 month check up, and as far as
the weight loss, the doc says it has been good, but says it might slow up
over the next three months. I sure hope not. I've been eating healthy,
protein first, then veggies, and carbs. I don't eat anything with a lot of
sugar, and don't eat a lot of bread, pasta, or rice. I also exercise as
much as I can.
