Question:
Has any one taken Xenadrine post-op to increase your metabolism or energy level.
Is it safe? I took it pre-op and it really increased my energy level. — Terri B. (posted on May 25, 2002)

I was also wondering the same thing....I am pre-op also, and wanted to know
if I could still take it post-op or is it not allowed?

You might want to read the article about over-the-counter diet pills in
last month's Cosmopolitan
Magazine.

You probably don't want my opinion, but from what I hear, such things are a
heart attack waiting to happen. Remember Fen-Phen?

Best of luck and God bless.

I used to take Xenadrine pre-op also. There is a lot of talk out there
about Ephedra. Not any of it very good. My sister-in-law asked me what
pills she could take to lose weight...I told her if there was one out
there, I wouldn't have needed the surgery. Be careful.

I've taken xenadrine and got really sick after the first few
doses....nausea,headache,dizziness and racing pulse.I had to go to the er
to get it flushed out of my system.....they said some people just react
badly to it and that they see a couple of bad reactions every month.

Will Xenical and other over-the-counter meds containing ephedra give you
the feeling of having more energy? Sure. These meds are very similar to
over-the-counter cold meds, which can also leave you feeling revved up.
But ARE THEY SAFE? Not for long-term use. Hon, I'm sorry to be a
buzz-killer, but it's probably wisest to stop using that stuff a couple of
weeks before surgery... and I wouldn't chance it as a post-op (i'm 1 month
out from lap RNY). Hugs to you! sarah barnett, md
