Question:
Anyone develop a kidney infection after surgery?
I'm 3 1/2 weeks post-op and I'm starting to have symptoms of a kidney infection (which I've never had before). I'm seeing the doctor tomorrow. Anyone have this problem and what was your experience? Thanks!! — Christine L. (posted on April 30, 2002)

Hi, I had kidney stones and a kidney infection after surgery. It's very
painful and can be dangerous if not treated. Part of the problem might be
that you are not drinking enough. Drinking lots of water flushes the
kidneys out and helps prevent infection. Once you have an active
infection, you need to get antibiotics. good luck

I was 7 wks post op when I got my kidney/UT infection and was put in the
hospital for 5 days on IV medication so be sure and see your dr anytime you
have symptoms.
My surgeon said that it was from me not drinking enough as a new post op. I
am now almost 6 months post op and have had NO problems with them since.
Just drink,drink,drink:)

I had kidney stones and a UTI just 2 weeks after surgery! It was horrible,
because I wasn't yet feeling better from the surgery. I knew right away
that I wasn't drinking enough liquids. I passed the stones and my doc put
me on antibiotics and pain meds for the UTI. Thank goodness I haven't had
any more problems, but I tell you...it was enough to make me a believer in
"drink, drink, drink"!!! Best of luck to you.
