Question:
Dumping
Do all carbohydrates make you dump equally (at the same number of grams)? Or does it depend on the type of sugar as to how many grams you can have before you dump? — Christine L. (posted on April 24, 2002)

From what I understand it is only what are called simple carbohydrates,
more commonly known as sugar. It is because they digest too fast and in the
part of the intestine that they now hook up to your new pouch, can really
cause problems because that part isn't used to digesting simple sugars.
Complex carbohydrates should be eaten sparingly, although are part of a
balanced diet. This would include whole grains, veggies, beans etc.

Dumping is hard to predict, i.e. I can eat 1/2 c. of ice cream or a candy
bar and not dump at all. But if I eat corn chips, Ramen soup or cereal, I
dump like crazy. I know - it doesn't make much sense. The simple sugars
go down fine, but complex carbs are dangerous for me. I wish it were the
other way around!

I haven't had surgery yet,but was reading about "dumping".I was
wondering if using artificial sweeteners also causes that, such as in
Crystal lite drinks,or using it in coffee and such??
