Hi, my protein goal personally is 71. But everyone is different. Your
surgeon or nutritionist should by alrights give you a protein goal. Alot
of surgoens go with 60 but for some reason mine wants me to get more. Go
figure. lol. Good luck!!! OPEN RNY Oct 4, 2001 start wt 271 down to 191

.8 grams of protein for every 2.2 pounds of body weight. So if you're 250,
you should get around 90 grams daily (That equates to 3, 30 gram protein
shakes). Good luck and God Bless!

I agree that different doctors and nutritionists suggest different amounts
of protein. Personally, I supplement 60 grams of protein each day and that
makes any protein I get in my food just an added bonus. Protein is very,
very important to the WLS patient for several reasons. Protein is the
body's building block. It is a tremendous aid in the healing process after
surgery. Also, protein provides us with added energy and keeps that
metabolism revved up. Personally, my favorite thing about protein is that
once I started supplementing protein I never experienced another major
plateau. It just kept me on an even keel. Protein also naturally helps to
supress your appetite. See - everything about it is good! Many surgeons
want their patients to get their protein only from food. My surgeon did
not recommend or support protein supplements. When I made the decision on
my own to try supplementing protein I told him I was doing it. He told me
to let him know how it went. Now, he still doesn't recommend supplementing
but he also doesn't discourage it - he let's his patients make their own
choices. Michelle Curran at vitalady.com is a protein expert and sells
great products. You might want to contact her. Best wishes to you!
