Question:
My question is this..I have noticed that alot of post-ops have plastic surgery done..
breast lifts,, arms done...etc...I am wondering is it always neccesary? I am still quite large but after c-sections, gall bladder surgery, and this surgery I just do not wanna have my stomach cut up on again..also I have bat wings now but if I work out will they always hang?? Or am I doomed to have to go through another series of surgeries?? — tylerswife (posted on March 29, 2002)

My plastic surgeon said once the skin is stretched, no matter how much
exercise you do, it wont reduce the hanging skin. I guess plastic surgery
is a personal choice. Some people can be content to live life with the
hanging skin as long as it doesn't bother them. For me, it's a problem and
I want to correct the problem as soon as I possibly can.

I would say more people *don't* have plastic surgery than do. I had some
procedures done, my husband did not. Your bat wings will not go away. I
have nicely developed arm muscles and the flap underneath, but am not about
to have them surgically fixed. They don't look great, but aren't causing
me any medical problems so no one's cutting them!

Well, I think reconstructive (plastic) surgery is just a personal choice.
It depends upon the amount of skin that is hanging, how much it bothers YOU
or if it is causing medical problems. I don't think I would even be
considering reconstructive surgery, but I have to have a hernia repair, and
my surgeon felt I might as well go for an abdominoplasty at the same time.
Although the excess skin on my abdomen is not horrifying, my surgeon feels
that it will eventually cause medical problems. I guess it's just a
personal decision based on your own circumstances. I doubt that many people
MUST have reconstructive surgery, but it is always a possibility. Good
luck! Maria
