Question:
After and open rny, what percent of weight should I lose at various intervals?
Such as, what percent by 3 mo, 6mo, 9mo, 1 yr ect... I know I should remember this, but I can't. Thanks for your help. — Krista L. S. (posted on September 5, 2001)

There are several factors that will determine the answer to this question.
But each person is different. The one constant is that you can expect to
lose roughly 80-100% of your excess body weight within 12-18 months after
the surgery.

Krista - there are so many factors that influence the outcome - However,
this is what my Surgeon has told me - On an average, we should lose 1/2 of
our excess weight within 6 months, and then the rest of it over the next 12
to 18 months. You have to remember, that this is a tool and each of our
bodies and metobolisms are different....some of us are slow losers and
others fast. Remember to get your measurements!! I have lost 8 inches off
my hips in 3 1/2 months and have gone from a 47D to a 40D - weightloss is
55 pounds. Good Luck, Karan

I started at 316 (6 ft tall) and weigh 263 thirty-four days after surgery.
It seems the bulk of the weight has come off my upper middle and just now
the pants size is starting to change. It sure makes a difference in
breathing!
