Question:
Why have I gained several pounds in the last week?

I have not been eating anymore than I have been in the past but, I have gained a few pounds. I don't understand. My clothes feel the same and actually I think I am still losing inches. Can someone help me please? I am so confused.    — Teresa C. (posted on September 1, 2001)

Are you exercising? You could just be building muscle which weighs more than fat.

I had a terrible problem with water retention. I talked with my pcp about it and he put me on a water pill. I lost 11 pounds in a matter of 3 days. If I take off a day without taking my water pill I retain fluid terribly again. Just a thought

Like the previous poster said, you can retain water too, as long as you're losing inches I wouldn't worry about it... Only weigh once a week, at the same time, in the morning after you've gone potty is a good consistant time if your schedule allows. Don't freak... If you think you need dietary help, ask your surgeon he should have some more advice for you .. but I wouldn't worry, if you're losing inches you're doing something right..

Hello! Good question as I had found myself in the same situation. I have been told it is normal and not to worry..unless you are intaking more calories than what you are burning off. Also..it is sooo amazing how much sodium is in foods too that may have you retain fluids...a good way to eliminate that is simply by walking and believe it or not..drinking water! It could also be the cause of that "time of the month" or if you have been really working out...you might be building muscle which weighs more than fat. Your weight may go up and down..but as long as you are eating what you are suppose to and excercising..you will be okay! Also...go by the measure tape over the scale too! My eight stayed the same for a few weeks and now just recently it is flying off! I think the body needs time to adjust too with the new eating habits and so on while it is healing. Good Luck!!!! :0)
