Question:
Two questions, It seems that in the past week or so there
have been more than the usual number of posts regarding pouch discomfort and other post RNY problems is this my imagination or pre op jitters? Also I am wondering if others have had the RNY done with the pouch totally separated from the remaining stomach, not just a staple line separation. has this worked well for you? Do you have much pouch discomfort or other eating problems? thanks for your input — [Anonymous] (posted on August 31, 2001)

Hi, I was transected, having my pouch separated from my stomach, and I have
been fine. I've heard that many surgeons are doing this now instead of the
stapling. I guess it's just a preference, or what the surgeon has had the
most success with. But some still staple, like I said it must be a
preference of the individual surgeon. Your probably having pre op
jitters, and just noticing the pouch pain or problematic questions. I think
a lot of the questions on here are for people to be reassured that they are
ok, and of course there are people that have problems too. If you've
researched this, and feel confident in your surgeon, you should be fine.
There are thousands of people on this site, don't get nervous by the few
that post questions. Best wishes to you!

I, too, have been transected and have had no difficulties with my pouch.
ONE TIME I did have a little pain, but it was because something got stuck.
It dislodged immediately and I was fine. Other than that, I have had NO
problems whatsoever. You probably just have the jitters. Everything should
be just fine. Good luck, Maria

What you see here are the problems. The successes are in the profile
updates. Check my profile, I am down 50 pounds since July 23rd and feel
GREAT!

I am 5 weeks post op Lap RNY. When they do the surgery Lap, they have to
transect the stomach because the stapler is too big. I have had no
problems with my pouch unless I drink something too fast. Then it kind of
"yells" at me for a min or two and then it goes away. I'm glad I
had my stomach transected because now I don't have to worry about staple
line disruptions.
