Question:
Anyone with exp w/Pacificare & out of Network Surgeon?
I live in Eureka, CA. & have PacifiCare ins. There are no bariatric surgeons in this area, in fact I can not find one in the Pacificare network at all. Does anyone know of one? I am sure if I am even approved to see a surgeon, who will most likely be out of the area, they will require a co-pay much higher than I pay normally. Can anyone give me an idea as to what I might expect? I saw my PCP last week, who was lukewarm with the idea, but did agree to ask ins. for a referral to Dr. Gary Cooper in Chico. I spoke to the lady in the PCP's office who writes the referrals and she is going to do her best she said to get an approval to see the surgeon. Now my worry is if I am going to be able to afford it. I weigh 244 & am 5"4", age 62, and like most everyone , I have dieted as far as I can remember, including the gastric bubble, hypnosis, hospital program of Optifast for 23 weks., etc, etc. — Raulene C. I have Pacificare HMO and had surgery in Feb. with Dr. Peter LePort.
Unfortunately we are in Southern California.
If you check the Doctor's Profile in California, on this web site, they
list surgery dates and which insurance was used. Also, if you contact
Pacificare they should be able to give you the list of doctors whom they
approve. Good luck!

Dr C.Gary Cooper in Chico,Ca takes Pacificare.
You need to get a referall from your PCP first and then they set you up
with an appointment to see him.
I called 2 weeks ago and asked.
here is his number 530-891-1651.
Good Luck with everything!
