Question:
Why am I loosing so slow i'm doing everything right in my power and i'm still failing

after my last attempt to take back control of my life. I feel like a failure and i'm on the verge of killing myself.Because everything I try as far as weight control has failed. WHY? has this failed me also? Everyone esle at this weight would have been lost at least 100lbs.    — [Anonymous] (posted on July 13, 2001)

You're not a failure; you are a okay. Your body is fight right now to maintain the status quo. Is it possible that you're not getting ENOUGH calories? When you go much below 800 to 1,000 calories a day the body can go into a starvation mode and fight you tooth and nail to suck every bit of energy out of each calorie it does get. Try to post a bit more about what is going on for you right now. Surgery type, mobility, what you're eating. A complete picture makes it much easier to help with suggestions. But in the mean time... YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE. The weight will come off; you have taken a brave step to improve your health and things will go well for you! Repeat this over and over to yourself. You need a few pats on your back over the wonderful steps you've taken so far and the hard work you've put into it.

Please don't be so down on yourself. I am at 12 weeks and I have only lost 57 pds. I feel other people have lost weight a lot faster but at least I am going down and not up which is what I would be doing without this surgery. You are doing great stay focused and positive. God bless you...

57 lbs in 2 months! You rock!!! I also started out at over 500 lbs and lost about the same amt in a 2 month period. I lost 50 lbs of water weight in 10 days while I was in the hospital. Guess what? I gained some of it back. I think I gained back about 20 lbs because i was at the 30 lb mark within my 1st month. I have lost 158lbs in 9 months. I still have a long way to go but I feel so much better. I talked to my primary care doc and he said I am doing great and so are you. He told me that I'm not losing too fast or too slow. And that we should not be losing too fast because if we do our health will be compromised. I'm not knocking people who lost that 100 lbs in the first few months. But our bodies are different and we lose at different rates. I did notice a slow down after those first few months because my body was adjusting to the sudden weight loss. I guess my body was saying "Whoa!! something different is going on here, slow down a little." But over the last few months my weight loss picked up again. Don't beat yourself up over this. Don't look at your weight loss over the short term but over the 24 month window of opportunity. You still are still in that early window of opportunity and you are going to see some wonderful results in the coming months.

WOW 50 LBS IN 9 WEEKS!!!THAT'S GREAT!!! I am 6 months post RNY and have lost 60 lbs. I started at 310 5'8", and I too have read and compared myself to others who were loosing a whole lot more and faster. I know it gets frustrating and depressing, but please rejoice in what you have accomplished so far. If not for the bravery to have this surgery, today you would be at least 50 lbs heavier, right? So that right there is an astounding accomplishment. When ever I get down about my slow loss, I just think about myself 60 pounds ago. I had diabetes, high B/P, high Cholesterol, could not sleep more than 2-3 hrs at a time and was tired, achy and depressed all of the time. Well no more! I feel great. No more meds for diabetes, no more constant headaches due to high B/P. No more sleepless nights. I am truly happier and healthier than I have been for many years. And just think at least now the numbers on the scale are going down and not up. Just give yourself some credit and love for all that you have been through, and relax the weight has got to come off as long as you follow you Dr's orders...good luck Kim
