Question:
Has anyone in MI had the duodenal switch done by Dr.Lutrzkowski

in Bloomfield Hills? How were you treated during the pre op and post op periods? Did his office treat you respectfully or like an interruption in their busy day? Did you go to the support group and was it helpful? Thank you    — [Anonymous] (posted on July 6, 2001)

This surgeon is listed in this site's database. Go to the top of any page and click on "find a doc" and then choose #2 "browse the list" and then click on Michigan. You will then get a list of surgeons in this state. This doctor is listed. If you click on "view comments", you will then get a list of insurance companies that have approved surgery with this surgeon and also a section for patient comments. I always find this section interesting. Included with the comments are patient names (and link to their profiles to see how they are doing) and their e-mail addresses. Maybe you could e-mail them your specific questions. Hope this helps. Shelley

Me! Me! Me! I had Dr. Lutrzykowski...you can go to my profile to check out my comments. I personally had a great experience with him, although on at least two occasions prior to surgery, I felt like wringing his scrawny little neck. both times had to do with him telling me news I didn't want to hear. But, I give the guy credit for bravery (I was a pretty scary woman at 500 pounds), and he is extremely skilled as a physician. I had absolutely NO complications or problems. I went to the support group for about the first 8 months, then quit, basically because I am a snob. (I have a master's degree in counseling and don't need that type of support, yadda, yadda, yadda. Also, I didn't care for the anti-fat attitude...I am still an advocate of healthy self esteem no matter what your size and rabidly avoid shallow people who hated themselves fat and now love themselves thin.) However, I found the meetings extremely helpful for educating myself about nutritional supplements, expectations about hair loss, etc. Julie and his other assistant are outstanding. You have to remember too that they are busy, so I try to be very efficient when interacting with them about issues. However, Julie has held my hand on a number of occasions. I paid his 'program fee' and am grateful for every day of my new life. I am 14 months post op and down 172 pounds. Good Luck...tell that crazy Polack "Merri Busch said to tell him, she ain't puttin' no damn ass lemon juice on her lettuce, no matter what he says."

Merri, you are just tooooo funny. I had Dr. Lutrzkowski as my surgeon and he is absolutely wonderful. I adored him from the beginning and so grateful to this site to have found him. He is very professional and caring and is there for you anytime you need him, and I do mean anytime. He opened his office on a Sunday afternoon when I had a problem, which turned out not to be a problem. His staff is the best, both Julie and Kim. Anytime I needed paperwork filled out for work or the insurance companies they were right on it. Just last Monday before 10:00a Julie was in the office typing and faxing paperwork to my company doctor (because it was lost by my Human Resources Department) for me to return to work. They all do their job and do it well and I am so grateful to have the best.
