Question:
Is it normal to feel the food go through your intestines?

Okay guys. Here's my episode after taking my first bite of food after surgery: I've been a post-op for 2+ weeks now, and have been on the liquid diet. You know, jello, broth, water, etc. I've been informed by my surgeon that I can begin eating pureed foods on Friday. Yesterday, while eating jello I thought "if I can eat soft foods like eggs on Friday, then I should be able to eat eggs today". I got up and scrambled 2 egg whites. Then I put alittle cheese on top for extra protein. Smiling, I happily chewed 3 tiny bits of the eggs. They went down fine. Let me add, that those 3 baby-spoonful of eggs would not have filled up 1/2 of a teaspoon they were so small. So they went down fine. I then sipped some water, maybe 3-4 sips. All of a sudden I could feel my stomach expand. So much so that I could feel the incision or staples internally. I was freaking out then. Thinking I should have just waited until Friday, right :o). I then used the restroom, urine, and the pressure/slight pain subsided. Within 10-15 minutes later I began to feel this movement along my lower abdomen. I became nervous all over again thinking I was about to have a muscle spasm or pull. It then went away. I became so exhausted from freaking out that I went to sleep. When I awoke I was fine. Am I the only one, or has someone else experienced the above. Oh, my Dr. said the following "It sounds like the little pouch is working. The discomfort will prevent you from eating the wrong food or eating too much". I only ate 3 tiny morsels of an egg. Will I have this feeling everytime I eat something, aacckkk! HELP :O)    — ellton (posted on June 20, 2001)

Yes, I could feel the liquid going down to the abdominal area -- astrange sensation. We all have to experiment just a little and scare ourselves silly and then we get back on track. Good luck!
