Question:
It has been 2 weeks since my Dr office sent for authorization from BC/BS.
They said they should know in 4 weeks but I am eager.Do you think I should call BC/bs to see where it is in the process or should I just wait out the time? — [Anonymous] (posted on May 10, 2001)

I did not receive my letter for 10 weeks after consult. BCBS kept it their
30 days and then sent it to the union office stating they have to approve
it. Then they kept it almost another 30 days. I suspect they use stall
tactics because if you really want the surgery you will wait it out since
it is a life long change in you life.

Here is my experience with BCBS. By no means let this go for 4 weeks.
Call BCBS today if it has been 2 weeks and at least ask them if they even
recieved the letter from the doctor. I promise you, 90% chance that they
will say no. You then have to ask them their name, their fax number and
then call the doctor's office. Have the doctor fax the letter again
directly to this person immediately and have the doctor fax YOU a copy too.
I would then, also personally, fax another copy to that person at BCBS
immediately too. Call them an hour after you know that the paperwork was
faxed and ask them if they recieved it. They will have to say yes, and at
that point, your paperwork has to be started to be worked on. I did that,
and 3 days later I was approved. most times, they will say they never
recieved the first letter sent. I have no idea why but if you ask people
on here, many will tell you the same thing. I wish you much luck and
happiness in your journey.

I have BCBS of AL and after my Dr sent off my insurance papers I was told
to follow up so after a week I called them and they said they hadnt
received them so I asked for specific faxing instructions for medical
review and after it was faxed the second time I was approved in a few days.
The customer service rep at BCBS told me to call back every week to check
progress and thats how I found out I was approved...actual letter arrived 3
weeks later.

CALL. That is what these people are paid for....to serve you. Ask if it
has been received and in what stage of the reviewing process is it in. If
it has been approved...have them fax it to you.
