Question:
Chinese Egg Drop Soup is a relatively bland and somewhat clear soup with eggs...

Since Eggs are a good source of protein and Egg Drop SOup is soooo very inexpensive...$2.50 a quart....Would this be a good food source immediately after surgery?? I love the stuff and am hoping i can eat it so my hubby can pick it up for me and i can stick it in the fridge and re-heat it....I don't intend to do alot of cooking for a few weeks...LOL    — Tracy L. Tracy, All doctors have different structures for their patients diets however, my doctor allows broth ,chicken and eggs - so egg drop soup was my first solid meal after my stitiches were removed. Of course I illiminated the green onions from the top. It was great and it stayed down with NO problems - I still say you would have to check with your doc or a nutritinist first but good luck. I plan to have it at least once a week when my hubby feels like going out for chinese food.

A wonderful choice in my opinion! I had it for the first time last week, and it stayed down perfectly when alot of other stuff hasn't been. Be sure to watch for some larger pieces of 'egg drop', and chew them up! Also, don't get ahead of yourself with other Chinese foods. I tried, and.... I paid BIG TIME. Enjoy the soup! Best Wishes!

Yummy, one of my favorites too. I started eating it about 10 days post op. I was released from the hospital on a puree diet so this fit in pretty well. As previously mentioned, avoid the green onions and any large chuncks of egg but other wise, enjoy.

This was "allowed" when I went home from the hospital 2 days post-op lap RNY. I found that I really developed a taste for anything that had a slightly salty taste and that I couldn't stand anything that tasted remotely sweet. The egg-drop soup really was wonderful and gave me no problems at all. Good luck!

Hi. I guess I can't speak for egg drop soup, but I had Hot and Sour soup (my personal favorite) at 1 wk post-op. Tasted great and one serving from restaurant was 2 meals for me.

I have heard of several people who use this soup with no problems. In fact, I'm having some food tolerance probs right now and the nurse at my surgeons office said she went through the same thing and ate egg drop soup for most of her first three months! I haven't tried it yet since I really don't like eggs, but I think I'll give it a shot.
