Question:
Is it psoriasis or just dry scalp?
I've noticed that since my hair has been thinning that my scalp has gotten very dry and itchy to the point where I scratch a lot. I get these little scabs from where I've scratched. I wash my hair daily with Biolage shampoo and conditioner. Is there a chance this could be psoiasis or could it just be dry scalp? Also, what could I do about it? Does using a blow dryer and certain styling aids aggrevate the scalp as well? And, does anyone know how to slow down the hair loss other than getting in enough protein? Thanks. Andrea — Andrea H. When I suffer from dry scalp, I alternate regular shampoo with Head and
Shoulders. Earlier this year, my scalp was so dry I developed sores also.
The alternate method seems to be working great. Also, hair spray, mousse
and gel all contain alcohol, which does dry the scalp. I dont know how to
slow down the hair loss process, though I wish I did becuae my drain in the
shower cant take it anymore. Hope this info helps!

Besides plenty of protein supps, are you trying to go low fat? We tend to
do that, yet we are malabsorbing some fat already, so you may not be
getting ENOUGH fats. Also, are you taking dry vites A, D & E?
Although proximals don't malabsorb as much of the fats & fat solubles
as a distal, even normies are supplementing their vite E these days for
heart health. The only difference is, if you can't extract those vites out
of your foods, you also can't get them out of oil filled pilled. Just be
sure you are getting them in a capsule filled with powder.

Psoriasis is a genetic condition. It can appear around the scalp initially
but usually appears in other areas as well. Unless you have a family
history of psoriasis or actual scabbing and flaking elsewhere, it's
probably not psoriasis. However, there are lots of other skin conditions
that can cause the symptoms you describe. I will defer to the masters on
nutrition information. Oh, and I know this because my father has an
extreme case of psoriasis and I'm concerned that I'll develop it too some
day so we've both done a lot of research about it. I hope it gets better.

For several years I've had a dry scabbing type thing that happens on the
side of my scalp, and in my ears...very itchy, raw, can sometimes bleed. I
tried a number of different things, and am now on a perscription liquid
called Temovate...it's marvelous...a couple of drops rubbed into the area
seems to do the trick...sometimes it takes a couple of days with an
application each day, but never more then that. I will say thought that
this is an extrememly heavy duty steroid...so be cautious of using to much
if you ask your dr for it...I'd make sure you get all the info you can on
it, but for me it works great!
