I also had a bout of kidney stones..i had them about 3 days after i spent
10 days very sick with strep throat about 3 months after my surgery..im
sure it was lack of water and i was dehydrated..thankfully i didnt have to
stay over because the stones passed while i was still in the ER...anyway
ive been drinking much more lately so it doesnt happen again..

I got them at 3 yrs post-op as my Xmas gift. I contributed to this with my
lazy water dirnking ways. I also drank diet pops and iced tea (acids in
these). A little's OK. Wasn't drinking a little. Also, had been taking
calcium carbonate all that time. Same stuff that is in Tums & Viactiv?
My urolgist said that basically, all the calcium that was in there was
looking good in my blood, storing in my kidneys. Switch to calcium citrate
AT ONCE or osteoporosis would follow for sure! I should point out, however,
that I figured she didn't know anything about WLS. Switched only for 90
days, then back to carbonate (cheaper). NOW I have osteoporosis. Please
sign me, Stupid, but taking citrate NOW.

Sorry, but this topic needs facts. (You gotta learn how to use a search
engine) Check for yourself:
Regarding calcium citrate vs carbonate and osteoporosis, try
sites that don't sell or make citrate, like The National Osteoporosis
Foundation @ http://www.nof.org/prevention/calcium_supplements.htm or
a Medical College (women's health) @
http://healthlink.mcw.edu/article/960398387.html
Regarding calcium types & kidney stones, try
http://216.151.94.36/index.htm or
http://surgery.mc.duke.edu/urology/kidney.htm for the real causes of kidney
stones. (The leading one is not enough fluids. It doesn't matter if it's
plain water or coffee or pop.)

I am 7 weeks post op and just had a bout with a kidney stone. I have not
had a change to speak with my surgeon and ask him if he thinks it is at all
related to my surgery... or possibly the tums he has me taking.

I am approx 10 wks post op and for the first time now have a kidney stone.
It hurts like heck. I didnt know this aspect of WLS. Im positive its a
direct link. Due to lack of fluid intake and the extra calcium.

i am a year and 2 months out and have had 3 bouts with the kidney stones,
the last one required surgery, had 8 of them in my left kidney but still
have 2 in my right( never had the problem before surgery) mine are from
being high in oxalate. just saw my uroligist today and he seems to think
that i got them due to the fast weight loss and not enough fluids. i have
to have more test done to see if diet is helping or i am just prone to
getting them now.
