Question:
How long should I expect to be in the hospital after lap rny?
My surgeon says to expect a 4-day hospital stay for the open procedure, barring any complications. I do not know what to expect with a lap procedure. — Kim D. (posted on March 13, 2001)

My daughter and I had lap RNY surgery last year. We had a 2 day
hospitalization...no ICU, no tubes, no drains, no external sutures or
staples....and that is the norm for our surgeon, but everyone's experiences
may vary slightly. Best wishes!

I had Lap RNY last Thursday and came home Sunday. I did have an NG tube in
but that's just a surgeon preference. I think you should expect what
everybody else having RNY experiences. Only difference with Lap (I think)
is less pain. Of course every case is different.
