Question:
My incision is still opening up and draining after 9 wks! My doctor doesn't
seem too concerned about it. It is small openings but it seems like one closes and another "blister" forms and opens. It drains the yellow serous fluid. I went back to work and although I sit all day, it opened up in two more places. I don't know what to do and am getting very depressed. Am afraid to do too much bending and exercising. Has anyone else had this problem and did anyone have to go to a wound care center? Please help! — [Anonymous] (posted on February 3, 2001)

I am 1 month post-op and I too am having trouble with drainage and incision
healing. I have one that opened up and started out as one inch long and 6
inches deep. It is now 2 1/2 inches long and about 3 inches deep. I also
have another smaller one that is about the size of a fingertip. I don't go
to wound care but they send out Visiting Nurses daily to pack it. Mine
started out opening because I had fat necrosis (where the fat tissue dies)
and I got an infection. I too am very upset about this but the Doctor and
Nurses says it looks good now and will close up on it's own time. However,
I can't go back to work because I have to be home for wound care. I know
what you are going through. Hang in there and we will be better than new
someday soon.

Hi There! Congrats on you WLS!!! I, had a problem with my incision after
wls. My PCP taught me to use equal parts of sterile water and peroxide to
FLUSH the wounds 3 times a day. Do it internally and around the outer areas
with this mixture. It did not sting in my case but I'm sure that it'll be
minimal, if any, with you. This worked almost overnite after fighting the
infections for 4 months, but part of that was my fault because I thought I
could do it without asking for dr.'s advise. Hope this helps you. Good
Luck and Bless you........TERRY LAWRENCE

One of the ladies that had surgery the same time I did is having the same
problem. I saw her in the surgeons office last week and her problem was she
was allergic to the stitches and she had to have it lanced.
