Question:
My binder is giving me sore red marks on my back.
I love the binder because it supports my tummy and makes it much easier for me to move around but the sores on my back hurt. They're not open sores. Anyone experience this and have a "magic cure" for me??? — Shalee S. (posted on January 16, 2001)

Actually, I had the same problem. One of the Wound Care techs at the
hospital I work for suggested this cream that is used for bed sores in
elderly patients. I don't have it handy here at work but I have it at home
and will email you the name when I get out of work. It is great! It worked
better than a Vaseline or anything. Perhaps you can get it and try it.
Talk to you later.

I used Sarna lotion and made sure my back was dry and used baby powder
before I put the binder on after my shower. The best thing though was
wearing a cotton t-shirt under the binder. It really relieved the sores and
made the support much more comfortable. I bought the tank-style ones in a
large man's size. This was recommended to me by my surgeon's nurse at my
2-week checkup.

I know what you mean, two weeks post op I could no longer
wear mines and used a ace Bandage for support. My Back hurt
that bad. I still wear the ace Bandage today just cause I
feel good with it on. I used over the counter cream for
skin rash.

Wear an undershirt under the binder. The stretchy kind for men. I wore a
binder for 8 months, due to several complications, then a TT & hernia
repair. I loved my binder. Just resently I've been able to cough without
holding my abdomen. Now I wear a corset. I love my new small waist!! Good
Luck, and God Bless --

Nancy, the surgical nurse at Dr Aslam's strongly suggested wearing
something silky under binder ... maybe a teddy, or camosole, etc. Sure did
the trick for me! I wore the binder day and nite for six weeks and
experienced only minimal discomfort. By the way, I used binder after
hernia/panniculectomy, not WLS.

That's a good idea about wearing something silky, like a camisole or a
teddy under the binder. I wish I had heard of it sooner. I much would have
preferred it over the scratchy t-shirt I wore underneath. But I don't know
how well it would have gone over in the locker room at the gym club.

putting on the binder... they were perfect, and thin enough to were they
