Question:
I just got my Christmas present, a medical alert bracelet, from my dear

hubby and I was wondering if I need to wear it for the rest of my life or just til I heal up inside? It is gorgeous and I won't mind wearing it at all! It is 14k and designer bracelet....gold on gold. FYI, there is a special deal right now for new members on www.medicalert.com and you can get the designer bracelets at a tremendous discount. The price includes the $35 membership fee and shipping next day Fed ex. They are very professional and send a wallet card too with 24 hr protection for medical personnel to call for your information. Good idea!    — Marilyn C. (posted on November 24, 2000)

I have one of these bracelets too. I wear it 24/7, and plan on doing so for the rest of my life. The main reason is if I was ever brought to the emergency room, and they decided to pump my stomach, they would need to know that my stomach is very tiny. Otherwise, they could easily puncture my stomach and cause all kinds of bad problems.

I'm considering getting one after surgery. Just curious what you put down. Thanks!

Stephanie, I put on my bracelet "Roux-en-y gastric bypass. Do not blindly insert ng tube. Use endoscopy". That covers the main concern and then they call the 1-800 number for all my medical information. It is a wonderful service. Still need to know though: Can we come "undone" by ng tube forever or just until we heal? I mean is this a concern even months or years after surgery? Thanks to anyone who can answer!

I have a bracelet & a necklace one, registered with Medic Alert. I ALWAYS wear one, always. I am afraid of being hurt accidentally in an ER, afraid of being "undone" by some idiot in an ER, afraid of being administered meds that might hurt me. I was wearing one pre-op, too. But now I just never EVER not wear it. Even in evening wear. ALWAYS.
