Question:
My Doc says if upon opening me up the liver is to large he'll do VGB instead of RYN
I'm afraid of waking up and not having RNY but VGB instead. Is there a test they can do before to see it the liver is enlarged? — Shalee S. (posted on November 17, 2000)

A simple ultrasound could indicate the size of the liver; however, both my
daughter and I had lap RNYs and our surgeon never expressed this concern.
I didn't have liver enlargement, but I did have extensive adhesions (scar
tissue) from previous gall bladder surgery which were removed without
difficulty during the surgery. Have you thought about obtaining a 2nd
opinion?...always a valuable option for any pre-op patient. Good luck!
