Question:
Do you all recommend...
that all wls patients wear Medic Alert bracelets? I'm having open VBG, and I wonder if its necessary for my type of surgery, or is it mostly with the other surgeries like the RNY? I want to make sure I have everything I'm going to need. Thanks! — [Anonymous] (posted on November 1, 2000)

I had an open VBG in April, and I wear a Medic Alert bracelet that lists
not only my gastroplasty, but the fact that I'm asthmatic (although not
nearly as bad as I was 108 pounds ago) and allergic to sulfa drugs. I just
feel better knowing that, should the need arise, they're going to be
careful about shoving things down my throat. For myself, the peace of
mind's more than worth the cost of the bracelet.

I have one of those restaraunt cards that my doctor got for me and just put
it next to my license in my wallet, that way if anything happens to me when
they go to find my I.D. they will find the card which states I had a
surgical weight loss procedure. If you feel more comfortable wearing one
though I would, better to be safe than sorry!

I think a Medic Alert bracelet is an excellent idea. Maybe that should be
something that we should all have!!! Thank you for the suggestion!!!
