Question:
Several people have posted on ADIYH site that if meat gets "stuck" in
the pouch or it feels stuck, to dissolve a tsp of Adolph's Meat Tenderizer in water and drink. They say it helps. This sounds a little dangerous to me! Is it? Has anyone tried or heard of this? Does the tenderizer "tenderize" your new pouch???? This may sound stupid but need to know so I can have some on hand if necessary after surgery. Thanks! — [Anonymous] (posted on October 28, 2000)

My surgeon gave me the recipe for this *cocktail* in the event I didn't
chew well and felt that a bit of food was stuck in my pouch or the stoma.

1/2 teaspoon Adolph's Meat Tenderizer

1 teaspoon lemon juice

4 ounces water

Mix well. Sip slowly over a one hour time period.

I have had to do this a couple of times. It tastes pretty nasty
and putting it over ice helps. Of course the best thing to do is not get
in a hurry when you're eating and chew, chew, chew. I'm sure this doesn't
harm the pouch or my doc wouldn't have suggested it.

My surgeon recommended this to me for if I had this problem so it must not
be dangerous. He performed an open RNY, transected on me. Luckily I never
had to do it but I do be careful that my meat had been in tenderizer before
I cook it.
Good Luck!

I read on the boards that someone's Dr suggested Coke/Pepsi. It pretty
much eats up meat also, and taste better.
