Question:
Calling all VBGr's out there! Help...
For anyone thats had a VBG, can you tell me what your diet was like the first month or so post-op? Is it like with the RNY where you have to have liquids, then puree, soft, etc? Approx. how long is each "stage"? Thanks for the input!! — [Anonymous] (posted on September 2, 2000)

Just like with all surgeries, each doctor has different meal plans for
his/her patients to follow. After my VBG my doc wanted me on full liquids
for 3 weeks. Then 3 weeks of soft / pureed foods. After 6 weeks I got the
go ahead to try anything in small amounts. My doc wants us to stay away
from sugar and junk food (of course). Some docs may have you stay on
liquids longer than 3 weeks. Others start you on soft foods immediately
post op. You would have to get the specifics from your own surgeon. Hope
that helps.

I have been out of the hospital for a week today, and I am eating normally
with the exception of spicy foods. I was on a full liquid diet for the
first day post op, then soft, for the next day, and then after that, normal
foods. Just have to remember to chew very good and take time eating.

My doctor is strict. When I left the hospital I had to stay on a Full
liquid diet for 30 days - to ensure that I did not disrupt the staple
lines.
After the 30 days I graduate to puree foods. (told I could use baby foods).
