Your doctor is being cautious and checking you out totally before surgery.
Have you had any gallbladder problems? Or chronic indigestion and/or acid
reflux? These things kind of go hand in hand with obese people. I doubt
that many doctors actually do an upper gi but it's to your benefit. Don't
sweat it. Never be afraid to ask your doctor about anything he wants to do,
it's part of informed consent. Good luck!

An upper GI studies aspects of the stomach that an endocscopy may not, such
as motility and stomach emptying. It sounds like your doctor is being
careful and thorough.

Hi,
I just wanted to tell you that some docs just require the upper gi. It is
really no big deal. It could be cuz your age or it could be cuz of a
comorbid you have. My doc did not require it but my mothers doc did. good
luck
