Question:
Could someone list the differences between a Panniculectomy and Abdominoplasty
I would like to know the differences of these two surgeries and also what the scar from both of them would look like. Major details would be appreciated. — Mary C. (posted on March 18, 2000)

In lay terms, A panniculectomy is a tummy tuck that removes the excess
skin. An abdominoplasty strengthens the abdominal muscles. Go to
www.plasticsurgery.org for details. Do a search on yahoo, lycos, alta
vista, or another search engine with each of these terms. It will return
pages where you can see different pictures.
Good luck!

I'm planning to have a tummy tuck/adominalplasty in the early summer. The
doc says I will have a scar running horizontally beneath the crease of my
pannis (that yucky flap of skin we big loosers develop after a while). The
scar will be barely visable in time because horizontal scars blend in with
the skin better. I'm also having a thigh lift at the same time and that
scar will apparently be worse as it will run more vertically and sort of
against the grain so to speak. I hope to have my upper arms and a partial
face-lift done too eventually but I need to do it all in steps. The
stomach is the worst and toughest from a recovery standpoint plus my
insurance will cover the adominalplasty so I'm starting there but the extra
time and expense for the thighs ($2700) will be paid by me
separately/privately even though my doctor will do them at the same time.
It does save me considerable $$ to do both together since I have to be in
the hospital overnight one night either way. I hope I can have my arms and
face lift together next year maybe. That will be a little cheaper (should
be able to do it outpatient)but I'll have to pay for all of it myself.
Feel free to e-mail me if there's anything else I can tell you which would
be helpful. CarolASig@aol
