Question:
Why do they have to make such a small stomach?
If the pouch was say 5 oz , wouldnt it still promote weight loss just longer? Seems like you would not throw up so much and getting nutrition would be easier. The intestine makes sense to shorten for less absorbtion. — mary S. (posted on September 9, 1999)

For some of us, even 2-3 oz. is too big. Our metabolisms
horde every calorie, and we don't lose very well.

I agree with Margie. I need a very small stomach because it doesnt take
much for me to maintain my weight. Some people just have slow motabolisms.
Id be concerned that a 5 oz. stomach would just be too much. You also
have to remember that the stomach stretches over time to twice its
beginning size. I have a 1 oz. stomach which will stretch to 2 oz. over
the first year and even with that I plateau once in a while. Im just too
inactive to think that my body would burn off the additional calories Id
get in with a larger pouch.

Small pouches (about 1 oz.) have been shown to cause the most consistent
long-term weight loss. I tell my patients that a larger pouch will not
produce reliable, sustained weight loss.
