Question:
What do you do when you feel like you are not being helped?
I have been feeling overall crappy for 3 weeks now and finally went to an insta-care. They did blood work and a urine sample. My blood is ok but the urine showed that I am dehidrated. None of my doctors will believe me when I tell them that I drink 70-90 oz of water every day. They say there is no other way to be dehidrated. What am I supposed to do, I cant go on feeling this way, live in a swimming pool, what? I am very frustrated and angry because I feel like Im not getting the help I need. any comments would be appreciated! Thanks — jenae C. (posted on August 20, 1999)

How many days, weeks, are you post op?? When did this start? Are you
vomitting alot? Are you urinating at 3-4 times a day??? Keep after your
doctor..as the ole saying goes "the squeaky wheel gets the oil"

I am a nurse and in the process of setting up my own WLS.
However, I am very familiar with the health care system and its
limitations. There are patient rights in all hospital settings. One of
those rights says you have a right to have your concerns listened to and
evaluated.
In short, the squeaky wheel gets the oil. Call, show up, leave messages,
but most of all when you are at the instacare demand that they investigate
further. Let them know that you are logging your visits, complaints, and
responses.
You should get more attention. One of the biggest misconception patients
have is that if they cause a rucus it will negatively effect the care they
receive. It is most often the quiet, noncomplaining patient that has
something get overlooked. You are incharge of your health care and never
forget that.
Good Luck and speak out.

How far post-op are you? Which procedure? Where are you? Sounds like you
may need to get to another doctor. Fast. Do you have other choices?

Hi,
I lived in So. Utah for a while and what I noticed was you actually need
more water. I had to be taken to the hospital once to be hydraited with an
IV. It may come to this with you also. Summer is the worse. I just don't
know where the water goes! Maybe you swet it out or something draws it out
or your system. The good news is it's not so bad in the winter. We used a
lot of gatoraide, but you will have to see if you can tolorate it. Good
Luck!

I think that you should check with another physician. A second opinion
never hurts. Do you still have your tube in your side? Did you have a
tube? If you did and still do, you should ask about some kind of extra
fluids that can be injected.
I have not had this surgery done but I check around alot and read a lot of
Q&A's.
Good luck to you. I hope you feel better soon.

You need to take charge and demand tests. It would be in your best
interest to take a buddy along strength in numbers. Someone to varify you
story. As long as your Dr. are gettin paid and will get paid. You need to
"TELL THEM" just what you want. Let them know that it is your
body and it does not feel right. Pester the hell out of them until you see
the desired results. If need be get a second opinion. Good luck Kimberly

Jenea, Do you drink water or do you drink juice, pop, tea,or anything
else? I can't understand either on 70-90oz of water a day how you could be
dehydrated. I am 16 mo post op and I don't even make it a habit to drink
water and I've never been dehydrated. Do you throw up alot? How much post
op are you? Good Luck. Jan Terry
