Question:
2.5 years post op RNY, I'm looking into revision
OK, I'm 5'0" Got down to 100lbs. I'm back up to 140. Still not obese BMI, but I'm exercising, eating right - but am always hungry every few hours. I originally wanted to have the DS, but my insurance wouldn't cover it. I'm proximal. Would it be easier to get approved for a DS upon revision? Can I have a revision even though I'm still in the "Acceptable" weight or (not that I want to) do I have to wait until my BMI reaches 40 AGAIN? I'm scared to death. Thank you for any input you may have~ — jengrz (posted on May 9, 2005)

Well Don't you make me feel like a failure!
I am 5'2 and lowest i got was 144 and not sit between 165-175 .... BUST my
butt at the gym and hardly eat.
I dont see an insurance approving you.
Do you eat right and work out??

First, I would got get your mechanics check out to see if maybe it isn't
your fault you are gaining. With that being said, I have heard proximals
have alot of trouble in maintaing their losses and must be much more
diligent than say a proximal. I would think about getting scoped and see
exactly where you stand where your mechanics are concerned. If it is a
mechanical problem then insurance will be more inclined to approve a
revision. Good luck darlin! Hugs...Erika

Yahoo has a couple of weight-loss surgery groups that could be great
resources for you. One is the Obesity Surgery Support Group for
"Graduates" (those who are at least one year post-op from WLS),
and I think there's also a group dedicated to revisions. I don't have the
URLS offhand, but if you check for "OSSG" in the library or maybe
even on google, you'll at least find the grads. I know there are folks
there who've struggled with exactly the question you've asked.

Just filling in the blanks. The link:

A regain of 40#, if I read that right, is substantial and more than just
bounceback. You don't say if you were transected and if your mechanics are
all intact. I also eat or drink a protein every 2 hrs or so, so that don't
seem strange to me, but that much regain makes me nervous.
