Question:
I'm almost 1-1/2 years out and two days ago I started running a 103.3 temp.

I saw my family doc and he put me on antibiotics. Today is day three and now the temp is up to 103.8 and the antibiotics don't seem to be helping. He ordered a CBC but it came back normal. Just wondering if an ulcer or SLD or anything else related to my RNY would cause a temp like this. My normal family doctor was out so I had to see someone else not familiar. I've also got flu like symptoms with this too now, cough/congested nose. Just want to rule out that it is not related to the bypass. Thanks for your help. I will be calling the doc again today but it is only 7am right now.    — bstowe (posted on April 29, 2005)

I am a 2 yr postie and I have to admit, I chuckle a little everytime I see postings like this. I don't mean to mean, but it is highly doubtful it has anything to do with a by-pass. Sounds like you have the flu....

I don't believe it has anything to do with your doctor..what area are you from. I am only 6 months out, but I just got back from the doctor, and am having those symptoms, my temp is not 103 though, but it was diagnosed as me having a sinus infection, on top of a double ear infection, along with allergies. So with the way the weather has been I'm sure yours is similiar with the symptoms you've said you have. I hope you get to feeling better.

Having a CBC will only tell if you have a bacterial infection, if you have a virus, which includes colds, flu or other viruses, the CBC will be perfectly normal. However, the doc can run a sed rate to check for virus. If the symptoms linger past a week they can also do a mono test of liver function test to check for more viruses. I don't think this has anything at all to do with WLS, unless you are having symptoms that include, abdominal or intenstinal. Feel better soon. Have you ever had mono? Because you can run a good amount of fever with this.

Thanks for the responses. I think this has more to do with my female parts then WLS. I normally get sick with every other period and it isn't unusual for me to run a low grade fever of 100, but this time was different. I've never ran a fever over 103. It has now been 5 days that I've been running 103+ degree fever off and on. But today I'm starting to get better and I think it is due to my period ending. Sorry to ask, but it just scared me with it being so high that I had to make sure it wasn't something else. The doc had no idea either, so I was doing my own research.
