Question:
Am I losing weight too quickly?
I am now a little less than 10 months post op and I have gone from 347 (wow) to about 165. Other people tend to be showing concern that the weight loss is too fast and I suppose my question is, "will it stop?" I feel great and all is well, but I continue to lost weight even though I am eating quite a bit of food in comparison to what I ate soon after surgery. I go back to the bariatric surgeon for my one year visit in April. Anyone have ideas? — Jen K. (posted on February 10, 2005)

I just hope I can do that good!! I am 4 months out and stuck at 206 started
at 287. I would be proud and stop listening to other people only your
physician can tell you what is right. Best Wishes

Hi! Congrats on your weight loss! I am just a litte over one year out and
have went from 325 to about 170. Like you, people around me were concerned
I lost too much, too fast. Everything I have read or been told says to NOT
try and stop the weight loss. The weight loss will tapper off and your
weight will balance out. I was worried too, but as expected my weight loss
came to a very gradual stop. I now weight 165-170 depending on time of
day, etc. I have been in this range for a couple of months now and am very
happy with it. 170 was my personal goal and it is weird how that is about
exactly how I ended up.

Hi, I had the same thing happen. At about 9 months out I was at 180, down
from 405. I ran into the same comments about losing too much, too fast and
everyone asking when is it going to stop (comments are starting to drive me
crazy). I talked to my surgons office and they said your body will level
off. They said you can help it level off by taking in more good calories.
Good luck.

May sure you are eating. Very important. Have you had blood workups.
This is also very important. If you are doing everthing the doctor is
telling you and your tests are great, don't worry. You should be eating 3
small meals (no more than 1/2 cup of food and 2 snacks. You should be
consuming 60+ grams of protein.

I wanted to add that it will stop. You have a window of time to lose the
weight (10 month to 1 year) then your body will get use to the eating and
it will slow. Your body will tell you what weight is good for you. In
some cases you will stable out and even gain about 5 to 10 bls. Again, as
long as you are exercising, having blood workups and eating do not be
concerned. Don't let others play mind games with you. People will say you
have to stop losing weight, you don't look well, etc. If you are concerned
talk to your doctor. Good luck... 180 + lbs, 18 months post op. Just had
a lower body lift. It went great! Next are my thighs.
