Question:
I'm 2 years out - is it possible to now get a SLD?
I'm 2 years out - obviously, I can eat alot more lately, but it seems like way too much (like a 6" hoagie). I've been having slight pain in my upper left quadrant. I've also been gaining weight, but I think it may still be "rebound" weight. I guess my question is: is it actually possible to get a SLD this far out after everything has healed? What are the signs? Proximal RNY. Thanks so much~ — jengrz (posted on October 4, 2004)

Yep, you can get one anytime down the road if you're not transsected (I'm
not, either). By itself, the ability to eat a six-inch hoagie at two years
out doesn't "shock the conscience," but if in doubt, ask the doc
"check your mechanics."

Yes, it's certainly possible. There's no timer on when the staples will
work loose. The average is by 2 yrs. Mine was at 5, my surgery sister was
at 7 yrs. Along with more volume, do you have acid? Do you have an
appointment to be scoped? Revision is not pleasant, but it IS do-able

If you are not transected, your stomach doesn't grow together at the staple
line. So the issue of being healed has nothing to do with your staple
line. The staples are only there to hold the stomach together to form a
pouch. Look at it this way....if you hold your fingers together without
taking them apart for two years, do you think they will be fused together
after the two years are up?

I'm not transected either
and I hate it. It's like a time bomb to me. I have 12 rows of staples and
according to my last scope...they are loose but intact. Scary! ~Rebecca
