Question:
anything that can be worn to
I am beginning to get "bat wings", and I am wondering if there is any kind of support garment that can be worn on the upper arms, under clothing, to help contain this problem until I can have surgery.... LW — Lesli W. (posted on September 27, 2004)

I am sorry but support garments are not going to fix bat wings. They may
temporarily cause the skin to constrict for a short time. The skin in that
area has been stretched for too long and it will not shrink back. Think of
it as a rubber band that has been stretched so many times that it does not
go back to its original shape. You have stretched the skin beyond it
capacity to shrink back to normal. That is the problem with any skin on
your body that has been stretched for too long, it hangs there after you
loose the fat under it. Now, depending on your age and how long you have
been obese are factors also and of course genetics. Only a doctor can
really tell you what your prospects are for not having too much loose skin.
Sorry that I do not have better news for you.

There is a garment that baseball players wear under their uniforms and
football players for that matter. It is a very tight shirt (spandex type
fabric) you can get it in short sleeves or long you can buy it at most
athletic type stores...it works wonders. Good luck til you can have your
surgery! Sabrina

Hi Lesli, I just had my bat wings removed. I did get a suggestion from my
plastic surgeon which worked until I had surgery - use a cut off panty
hose. Get a small size, cut off the toes and knee and use the
"sleeve" that you have created. I also used it post op per my PS
surgeons direction. It worked great and you can get a color which comes
close to your skin tone. Best wishes, Maggie B.
