Question:
Has anyone gain weight from fluid?
I have gained about 8 lbs. twice, it's bad enough to have to lose it once, it's even worse to have to lose it again. It makes me mad when this happens, it just hits all at once. Nothing seems to bring it on that I hvae noticed. — Deborah C. (posted on May 18, 2004)

Deborah...I'm 19 weeks out from surgery and I have had at least 4-5
episodes of gaining. Each time, it's been between 4 and 6.5 pounds within
a matter of just a few days (2-3 days). It is extremely frustrating for
that to happen. I hate it!! I even called my physician. They thought I
might be constipated, but that wasn't the case. I was at a standstill for
a couple of weeks afterward, but eventually lost it again. And I know how
frustrating that can be. The last time it happened was just this past
couple of weeks. I had lost 68 pounds on Sunday before last and by Tuesday
of the same week, I'd gained 6.5 pounds. I called the dietician because I
wondered if I might somehow be eating too much even though I am completely
thorough in measuring and weighing every single thing I eat or drink. She
told me that if my protein stores were too low, my body would hold on to
everything, including fluid, until my protein reserves were rebuilt. So,
I've tried very hard to get in the 75 g of protein each day and very hard
to get in at least 72 oz of fluids each day. Within 2 days after this last
time, I'd re-lost 4 of the pounds and finally ended the week by losing all
the 6.5 pounds plus one extra pound. Please try to not get discouraged (I
know it's easy for me to say it and I've definitely not always been able to
do...only in the past month have I stopped comparing myself to others and
realizing that I am an individual and will lose at the pace right for me).
Keep up your proteins, fluids, and exercise and it will all work out in
time. Hope this helps..feel free to e-mail me if you want.

Every month at ovulation time, I gain 6 pounds of water within 2 days. I
don't recall ever doing that pre-op, but I wasn't in the habit of weighing
very often and even if I did weigh, I wouldn't have put the two together. I
normally lose it all within a week or so.
