My psych. appt. lasted about 45 minutes and was a LOT less painful than I
thought it'd be. I had actually dreaded it. I knew I had depression, and I
didn't want it to stand in my way. The appointment was a breeze. It was
actually quite pleasant. We just chatted about my weight history, how it
had effected me, what it had been like for me, why I wanted to do this, and
who I would have to support me through that. The main focus though was on
her trying to educate me about the emotional effects that can come AFTER
surgery, like body image issues, changes in relationships, etc. I honestly
have no idea why I had been so scared of shrinks!!
The nutritionist appt. was also a breeze. Basically I got a bunch of
handouts and booklets describing what she went over with me. What had I
done before, how had it worked for me. The stages of the diet post-op.
Possible intolerances post-op. Liquid and protein needs post-op. It was
very informative and entirely painless!!
Anyway, I hope that alleviates some of your anxiety about it. I would take
a pen and notebook. Write down any questions you think you might have,
beforehand. Don't worry, it's going to be a breeze. I know you'll feel
better when it's done, though! Good luck!
