Question:
What are some examples of high carbohydrate foods......

To stay away from? I know about bread, rice, cereal and pasta, but what about fruits/vegetables/salads? I'm just about chicken and fished right out - lol! Thanks :) — jengrz (posted on March 7, 2004)

If you go to the Atkins site, you will find a list that you can download with the net carbs in many fruits and vegetables among other foods. Some fruits that have more than 10g net carbs per serving are: bananas, pineapple, grapes, and apples. Better choices are blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, avacados, watermelon and canteloupe. Higher carb veggies: asparagus, corn, acorn squash, carrots, potatoes, and water chestnuts. Better choices would be brocolli, cauliflour, mushrooms, celery, peppers, summer squash, zucchini, and tomatoes. In my personal opinion though, I wouldn't worry about overdoing veggies (except for potatoes or corn). As for the fruits, moderation is key even in the higher carb ones. Good luck to you!

Check with your nutritionist. I don't have to count fruits and veggies as carbs, but every Dr. is different.

While I am a very distal patient (60" common channel), sugar will make me fat, and make me dump. I can't eat much fruit, and eat fruit only very occasionally (less than once a week). Then I eat 1/4 of an apple, or a 1/4 of a small slice of watermelon, small slice of cantalope, a few berries.
I eat fresh veggies or salad everyday . . . I don't eat potatoes at all, not too many carrots, gotta watch the bell peppers (a few bites is all), etc.
Romaine lettuce really ROCKS! I love caesar salads - Romaine lettuce, dressing, extra lemon, and grated parmesan.
