I have had ulcers before and after my wls. Doc gave me prevacid 30 mg. 1 cap a day. and it works. the discomfort is gone before you know it. One way to try to prevent it is not to take meds on a empty stomach. I have a bad habit in doing this. Hope you feel better, take care

I think I have an ulcer too. My surgeon told me to get scoped. I talked to my regular doctor and asked her. She said IF I was scoped and it was an ulcer the treatment would be Nexium. So she put me on Nexim anyway. WHAT A GODSEND it has been!

Oh, the first poster said not to take meds on an empty stomach. SHE IS RIGHT! I think that is how I got into this mess by taking codiene on an empty stomach when I was having alot of backaches. We can get away with it pre op, but NOT post op. This new stomach is NOT forgivning of such abuse.

I developed an ulcer from taking vioxx on a daily basis, at 18 mo post op. My surgeon put me on a months worth of Nexium and the pain went away in a few days. You will have to determine why you developed an ulcer first before you can prevent it from returning. In my case, no brainer, stop taking the vioxx. Some are just prone to ulcers and its nothing they have done. Discuss with your doctor to determine why you developed one.

on 8/14/04 alittle over a month after my surgery and two strictures I went to my gastro doc to check for more because i couldnt drink much. I passed out in his office and was bleeding out. They found besides dehydration I had a small ulcer that had developed. I still take prevacid but once in a while, i was on it for a few months. They can fix it. Just dont worry. Watch the citric acid intake also.

I'm one month out and after having pain that seemed to worsen with time even to the point where drinking water was difficult I finally got someone to take me serious at the surgeon's office. From what I discribed they said I have an ulcer. The surgeon said sometimes when someone is newly post-op they can develope an ulcer where their pouch and intestines are attached. He put me on Prilosec 40 mg once a day. Today was my first day and it already gave me some relief. Enough to where I could drink my water. Good luck with everything!
