Question:
What about battered and fried fish?

I'm 8 weeks postop and can try most anything now except for beef and bread. I know the fat and carb thing has to be considered, but anyone eaten fried battered fish? Not necessarily the BREADED kind, but battered (specifically Gorton's fish portions). Chicken tenders come in to mind with this question as well....    — ScottieB86 (posted on January 27, 2004)

I wouldn't recommend the battered fish, at least for me it goes right through me , I usually do my fish with fat free spray and lemon pepper seasoning, it's yummy and you get the full flavor of the fish not the breading, I will be 2 years post-op next month!!!

I haven't had a problem with Tyson chicken nuggets, they aren't low fat, so I usually only eat them when I haven't had much, if any fat the rest of the day.

I've had a piece, and it went down and stayed dowm. I try to stay away from stuff like that, and considering that I hadn't eaten any for months, I figured one piece wasn't going to do any real harm. Was pretty good. I just wouldn't make it a regular thing. It all depends on how your system does with it.

yes, it tastes good but that's the kind of food i ate pre-op and i will never eat it again. i make better food choices now. just because i know i can eat something doesn't mean i should. i didn't have wls not to take advantage of it. your still early pre-op and the weight is coming of easy, but it will slow down soon. why not take advantage of the fast weightloss while you can. breaded is just as bad as battered. have you thought about trying the broil kind? they have many flavors and it's loaded with protien.

As far as the fish goes I really don't think that the battered will be that big a deal as long as it is not on a regular basis. Have you tried some of the fresh Talapia recipes that have been posted. They are great! I made one myself using lemon butter and italian dressing and man that fish was good. Concerning chicken: I tried those faux chicken nuggets made from soy product the other night and they were marvelous. Tasted very similar to Mickey Dee's.
