Question:
Has anyone who has a VBG been pregnant shortly after their surgery?

If so can they shar their experiences. ie. did they gain much weight? Was the pregnancy successful?    — Shannon T. (posted on January 20, 2004)

Hi Shannon, I found out shortly after my open RNY, that I was actually 6 weeks pregnant at the time of surgery. I met will all kinds of high-risk specialists, and nutritionists, and they all told me to eat as much as I possibly could. I lost 120 pounds while I was pregnant, and continued to lose weight post partum. The baby was born full term, perfectly healthy, and she weighed 7'11. Now she is almost 2. At the time I threw my weight loss concerns out the window, and really focused on eating as much as I could to keep the baby healthy. The weight-loss came as a bonus. I am now facing a possible SLD... not sure if it is due to my circumstances or not, but best wishes to you and your new baby!

Hi there! I had open VBG surgery 3/18/03 and found out at 6 months post-op that I was pregnant. I have not really gained any weight thus far (24 weeks today). My weight goes back and forth with a 2-3 pound difference. From the u/s's I have had-our little boy looks GREAT and has no problems at all. Good luck with your pregnancy!!!

I had an open VBG on 7/14/03. My start weight was 243. Well I got pregnant in Sept and found out in Nov. At my first OB visit 11/25/03 my weight was 166 and now at 21 weeks pregnant I weigh 169lbs. So far everything is going fine with my pregnancy and the baby seems to growing at a normal weight.

To answer your question YES, I got pregnant less than 2 months after I had the VBG. I had no problems having him and he was fine. I was told at one time I would not have kids. Well I now have 3 little ones. I must tell you, I had staple line break down I had put back on all the weight I had lost and just had a revision to the RNY,You are welcome to email me if you have any questions, I would be more than happy to help!!
