Question:
Does anyone know if it is possible to make a sugar free pecan pie?
I love pecan pie, but the only recipe I know of uses karo syrup. Does anyone know if there is a sugar free karo-type syrup or any other recipe similar to a pecan pie? Thanks. — MedTrans (posted on December 9, 2003)

Hi, there are recipies that use splenda for the sugar and sugar-free syrup
instead of karo. I just did a search on google and found a few different
versions, and I also saw one posted at the following web-site right before
Thanksgiving...www.lowcarbchefs.com. When you get to the website, just go
to the forum and it should be there a couple of pages back. They also gave
ideas for a low carb crust made of pecans, to use with the pie. Hope this
helps!

I have the best recipe in the whole world for pecan tarts (they are just
mini pecan pies)! A friend of mine gave it to me after our WLS for me to
adapt because it was an old family favorite of theirs. When I made it *my
way* and gave her some, she was absolutely stunned that it was ok for us to
have! She kept saying, "Are you sure?". Anyway, email me
privately if you want the recipe. Also, that recipe and 120 others are in
my recipe book, Desserts...and More! It is available by visiting
www.freewebs.com/recipes-after-rny. Good luck to you!

And by the way, I haven't tried a regular pecan pie recipe, but whenever
I'm experimenting and the recipe calls for Karo syrup or corn syrup, I
substitute it with sugar-free honey. I don't like the flavor of honey and
was skeptical the first time I tried this, but once it is
cooked/baked/boiled, etc., the honey flavor goes away. I've used it to
make candies, marshmallow creme, baklava and many other desserts. Good
luck!

I tried the sf pecan pie listed on our reciepe site for Thanksgiving. It
was awful, threw the whole thing away. The crust was good, made with nuts,
but forget the pie.
