Question:
Okay, I am one year out and did the deed....
I swallowed my gum. I search the database...sounds like I should wait a few days. Any thoughts? Happened to anyone recently? Feedback welcomed here!! — rmsh78 (posted on November 4, 2003)

I was 3 months post-op and I swallowed my gum. I didnt feel too good for
about three hours later. Just happened to have done this one day prior to
my checkup with my surgeon he said I was fine --dont do it again. I think
I had very loose stools for 24 hours and I was okay later. I gave up gum
after the second time I did it, now if I want something I get TIC TACS

I swallowed a small piece of gum about six months out. I called my dr's
office and was told that if there was a problem I'd know it very quickly.
The nurse also told me that at this far out, most likely there wouldn't be
a problem. I drank water, nothing happened. I'm still here today, so I
guess everything is okay.

Deborah, I am 6 weeks out and I swallowed my gum way back during my third
week. I stumbled up the steps and inhaled too quickly and down it went. I
was fine...but it sure as heck scared me for the next 24 hours.

I did it at 8 weeks, and called my surgeons office. They also said that I
would know if something wasn't right. Nothing happened. I'm sure you're
fine since you're a year out. If you something starts to feel not right,
call your surgeon or go to the emergency room.

Hi. I started chewing gum the second week because my ears kept popping. The
first piece of gum I had I swallowed. Nothing happened, I waited to get
sick had my nutritionist's phone number ready but I was fine. I told her
about it and she said I would have just puked. If nothing happened don't
worry about it, just don't do it again. : )

I was about 5 mos out when I swallowed my gum, scared me to death, but I
have been fine. I started thinking about all those things are parents told
us when we were little, like everything I ate would stick to my gum and
have a big stomach. Good laugh anyways. Good Luck and God Bless
