Question:
Why has my weight loss stopped?
I've read so many times about slow losers, but i'm about 22 days post-op and my first week i lost 12 lbs, and since then nothing more. how come? I switched to cottage cheese and yogurt for my protein, and have been walking and keeping up with my 1 year old, so what has happened? any suggestions to kick start my loss again? or is this normal for some people? I will have my check up this thursday (4 weeks) and i'm nervouse about what the doc will say. Thanks everyone!!! :) — Lynne W. (posted on October 5, 2003)

Hi I keep reading about everyone that worries about losing slow. According
to my weight loss you are all fast losers compared to myself. I started
5'9, 282 night of surgery. I am now 6 months post op and down 54 pounds.I
am currently 228. I will not lose for 3 weeks to a month than start losing
again. I have went from a 24 to approx 14-16 top and depends on who makes
it but have fit into a 15/16 but the norm is a 18. You will defeintly lose
everyone is just different.

My advice would be to stop exercising. I think that you are doing too much
too soon. I have also noticed a trend among peopole who have started
exercising before they are 3 months post op. It seems to me that these
people plateau early and often. You are probably not eating enough calories
to support exercising this early on. I am 8+ months post op and any more
than 3-4 days of walking and I am whooped and I have learned to listen to
my body and stop when it says stop. This is just my theory based on what I
have been reading on these boards over the past year and others have
noticed the same thing when I have asked about it.

I did the same exact thing.. 8lbs the first week, then stalled for a
while... but my loss did pick up....I'm down over 50lbs in just over two
months. I did notice that the weight loss slowed when i started
exercising, but then went a lot faster after a few weeks, so I think if you
are exercising and enjoying it, keep it up... BUT, EAT!! I find myself
often skipping meals because I have no hunger, but then I see my weight
loss stop! When I make myself eat all three meals, and my shakes, and
snacks... I LOSE! We need to keep our bodies fueled, especially when we
exercise. It will come off! Have faith. (I will tell you though, I also
added glucophage and spironolactone, which may be helping me as
well-prescribed since I have PCOS, and doc felt it would help weight loss)

It's normal to have a mini-plateau around 3 weeks post-op.
Keep doing what your doing and it will start dropping again.

If you look in the archives, you will find out that this happens to a great
many people and may continue intermittantly throughout the year. Sometimes
your body just has to catch up. Best wishes -
