Question:
How do you get the surgical/dressing tape goo to come off??!?!
Hi all! First off, I am very excited to announce - I am a post op! I never thought I'd say that. I had a proximal RNY on monday 9/22/03. Lots going on with me of course, but basically the operation went well and I have had no major complications yet. The only one I have so far is that I can't take the goo from the surgical tape/dressings off my skin,LOL!!! I had a lot on my hands and arms from IVS, A-Line dressing. I tried soap, I tried oil, I tried lotion, I tried a salt scrub, I tried alcohol, I tried a pumice stone. Eventually I filed it off with a foot file - but OUCH, I got abrasions that HURT. Tee hee, for a few hours they hurt worse than my incisions - which are feeling pretty good BTW. I still have a lot of tape goo on my belly over the incisions. Any ideas how to make it come off? The steri strips are slowly unravelling, and I've lost a few, and they don't leave too much of a mess, but still have more goo! Any thoughts would be apppreciated. Have you tried peroxide? This was a suggestion from my Dr. and it seemed
to help...good luck.

Rubbing alcohol did it for me.

Fingernail polish remover, but only on intact areas of skin. Do not put it
on your incision or any areas that are open. But rubbing alcohol will
usually do the trick, tho. Best Wishes!

Shea butter will do the trick, and it's not as harsh as the rubbing
alcohol. Just put some on the site and you will be able to "rub"
off the glue, like rubbing off the sticky stuff from the back of a label.

My surgeon told me to use fingernail polish remover. Use it carefully, of
course. *S* Good luck!

Baby oil removes adhesive and it also keeps the skin moist.

Hi. I used alcohol and cotton balls. You have to moisten it with the
alcohol and wait a few seconds then try removing it. You have to use a lot
of cotton balls cause once they get filled up with goo they won't remove
any more. It does work but you have to wait a few seconds for it to come
off. It doesn't just rub off. Good luck.

A little baby oil is mild & gentle, makes skin soft and melts away any
residual adhesive. I would not be putting alcohol or nail polish remaover
anywhere near my incision.

The thing that worked for me was a cotton ball with a little bit of orange
oil on it. You can use any orange cleaner that has orange oil. I used
orange room spray that had orange oil in it. It did the trick in just a
second and it was wonderful! Just be careful not to let any leak into your
