Question:
Have anybody had BCBS federal to deny their claim after surgery?

My mother who had surgery on August 4th got home on the 6th and when
talking to the insurance company that day she was told that they do not
cover lap and they wouldn't be paying for the surgery. She got a bill from
fairview that said they paid it so we are happy for that. With that
insurance they only give pre-cert instead of pre-auth like I had. Call and
appeal if necessary. Good Luck. 6/27/03 292/228/??

I had an open RNY, but I heard they won't pay for Duodenal Switch - as they
still consider it "experimental". BTW - I was exactly at 40BMI
w/minimal co-morbids.

BC/BS denied payment after precertifying me. It took a few phone calls and
turned out to be some kind of coding glitch. I got a second denial of
payment letter the day after they actually paid the surgeon. They are
screwy but be persistant and they will pay.

I had an open RNY 07/01/03 using BC/BS Federal and they have been
wonderful. I paid $100.00 to the hospital and 20% for all other bills. My
total expenses come to around $700.00 dollars.
