Question:
Almost 2 Yrs. Later - Can't Lose!

I am 20 months post-op and can't lose any more weight. I have lost about 160 lbs., however, would like to lose another 40. I have been on the Atkins diet for several weeks and while I have lost a few pounds, it's nothing substantial. I know this is asked often, but I was just looking for some support. I don't typically go over 20 carbs a day, and have no issues with getting in my water, and I even exercise! The only downfall I have is carb-less candy (Atkins brand, although I count it in my 20 carbs a day). Could that be the reasoning behind my lack of loss? Any suggestions would be really appreciated. I know that my tool isn't defected, as I still get full after 6 oz. of food.    — Chloe S. (posted on July 27, 2003)

I know what you mean. I'm almost 27 months post op. I also lost 160 lbs and kept all but 5 of it off. I'm around 35 pounds from goal and have given up hope of it. I don't know what to do about it, but you are not the only one. I've thought about the Carbohydrate Adictis Diet (hate Akins) but haven't tried CAD as a post op. But if you can't lose with Atkins, the CAD probally won't help.

Time to shake up the excersize. Are you really working out or has your body got use to your walking 1-2 miles a day, if that's what you do. You might think about a heart rate monitor to see it you are really working. Are you sweating? How often do you work out? How about weight lifting? I have read a study that showed the most health benefits from expending 2000 calories a week excersizing which works out to an hour a day. Yeah right. I work at 45 min 5 days a week. I'm a year out and having a tough time but I'm eating too many carbs. I'm doing strict Atkins this week and see if I can jump start. Good luck.

I can certainly relate with you. I am over two years out and I have experienced the same issue. I have lost around 185 pounds, and I haven't really lost anything for months. I have tried several different approaches, including weight watchers and high protein. I weight lift 30 minutes and interval cardio(hard) for five to six days a week. Five to six small meals a day. I have grown increasingly dependent on protein bars, so I am trying now to limit them to one every few days. Recently, a gastric-nutritionist recommended 1,100 calories a day. I was hungry all of the time. I have upped it to 1200 a day. Also, I am hoping this will work in my favor. I have almost given up ever getting the last 20 pounds off to make it to my goal weight. Good luck to you.
