Question:
What did you guys buy for your 2wk liquid diet following surgery?
I'm unclear about what to buy for the two weeks following surgery. Someone mentioned they had juice and popsicles. Are we supposed to eat all sugar free ANYTHING? It doesn't bother me, I just want to make sure I eat the right things. — yippeeok (posted on July 14, 2003)

I was allowed to have creme soups (strained). Cream of potato was my
favorite. Mix it with fortified milk and you're all set. Good luck to
you.

I lived on 1% sweet acedolphus milk ( the only milk approved by the doc and
as long as I could tolerate it. I'd do 2 oz every 3 hrs or so) s/f
popcicles and chicken broth. Coudln't stand s/f jello. Made me want to
hurl. I also ate a lot of shaved ice, and tried to drink a lot of water.

... I also forgot about the stage 1 apple or apple grape juice for babies
made by gerber. I would mix 1 oz juice with 3 oz water. my doc said i could
have up to 4 oz of unwaterd down juice a day. I don't like the taste of
water, so it helped. I'd mix all 4 oz, with 1 liter water.

Hi, some other suggestions that I can give is, first stage fruit baby
foods, plain cream of wheat, plain yogurt sweetened with a little baby
juice for flavor. I also did not like most of the sugar free stuff because
I don't like sweet things to begin with and they just all tasted too sweet
for my taste so I preferred the plain stuff, but to each their own!!Good
luck on your journey!

Lucky you! My surgeon's group has us stay on liquid diet for 6 weeks - no
exceptions. Helps with healing and speeds up initial weight loss which is
very motivating. We are given an approved grocery list: Alba-reduced
calorie shake, Ensure, Sustacal, 100% juice, grapefruit, apple, grape -
watered down, Broth-fat free chicken or beef or bouillon cubes (I bought
chicken noodle fat free instant soup, put through a strainer and only used
the instant powder part - tastes much better than other broths I've had),
Carnation sugar free instant breakfast, Fat Free Cool Whip, Crystal Light,
Sugar Free Koolaide, Egg Beaters, Sugar Free Jello, Sugar Free Pudding,
Sugar Free Hot Chocolate, Sugar Free Popsicles, Sugar Free Fudgsicles,
Non-Fat Dry Milk (we add this to what ever we can for more protein and
calcium), Yogurt - we are allowed the following flavors: DANNON - Bannana
Cream Pie, Cappuccino, Coconut Cream Pie, Creme Carmel, Lemon Chiffon, Mint
Chocolate Crem Pie, Vanilla. YOPLAIT LIGHT FLAVORS: Amaretto Cheescake,
Boston Cream Pie, Caramel Apple - of course they have to be the
"light" version. Also, I'm using Proteinex (pre-digested liquid
protein) mixed in Sugar Free Tang. Watered down cream of wheat with dry
milk added, strained Fat Free Creamed Soups. No gum. Nothing carbonated,
lots of water, no caffeine. After 6 weeks if ok we advance to PUREED Diet:
scrambled eggs, low fat cottage chees - blendarized, lean-pureed meats -
tuna, fish, chicken, pork and strained baby foods. Sometime after 8 weeks
or more we get to advance to regular diet (Fat Free/No Sugar). Hope this
helps.
