Cirrhosis is a very serious condition. While the two best known causes are
alcohol consumption and hepatitis, there can be other causes such as
clogged bile ducts following gall bladder surgery or a history of problems.
If his cirrhosis is due to the clogged bile duct problem, WLS might be an
aid in his long term recovery. However, if it is due to alcohol abuse or
hepatitis, this is a decision to be made with a treating physician. I'm
assuming they would not operate on an active alcoholic and I don't know
what the effects of having hepatitis would be. I think that the answer is
probably why does he have cirrhosis and what is the current status of the
cause and what does his doctor say about it. This is a medical issue
between him and his doctor.
