Question:
Sloppy Joes, can we eat this......
Hi, went to the library could not find the answer. Has anyone had sloppy joes made with manwich ? Does this have added sugar ? We are having a party at work tomorrow and that is what someone is bringing. Can I eat this or do I stay away. I have never had manwich before so I do not know. Thanks. — domestic G. You have to look at the labels and see how much sugar and fat it contains.
Pre-op I didn't care about label information.. now I read every label
before I buy something. Anyways Manwich probably is high in sugar (from
the tomatoes and sweetners) and might be high in fat depending on whether
they drain it or not. Either go to the store and see how much sugar/fat
would be in a manwich sandwich (look at the can and ground beef) or you can
try some... wait.... try some more... wait etc... so if you do start
dumping on it it will be mild.

Since I have two kids, ages 5 and 8, who LOVE sloppy joes...we have 'em all
the time. When I was first post op, I would just eat the meat...no bread.
Later, I moved on to making the little biscuits in a can and making *mini*
sloppy joes, because my younger son who didn't really understand what Mommy
did, was crying that Mommy couldn't have a *real* sloppy joe. Now, at
almost 19 months post op, I can eat one regular sloppy joe and that be
dinner. But you can have it...in fact, I just made the meat and mixed in
the manwich for tomorrow night's dinner...just heat and eat tomorrow
night!! Wahoo! Have a Sparkling Day!! ~CAE~

I am not exactly sure what the ingredients are in the sloppy joe mix, can
or packet but look at the ingredient list and see if you can duplicate it
from scratch. This way you can control the amount of sugar and fat that
will go into it. Good luck.

I found this to be a fairly easy to eat food (as meats went) early on. Try
a small amount and see how it goes. Personally I recommend not trying new
foods when out with others (especially at work) because you never know how
you'll react to something. But if you're brave, go for it!

I actually had a sloppy joe yesterday. It was also one of the only way I
could eat meats in the begining. I think the sauce made it go down easier.
To make it healthier you can make it with ground trukey breast. Manwhich
sauce never caused me to dump but everyone is differrent.

Thanks to everyone who answered me.
I went to the Walgreen's site, manwich for 1/4 cup has 4 grams of sugar. I
have yet to try sugar and I don't think work would be the best place.
I was just hoping I could eat what is being brought in today.
I really appreciate your help and info on this. You guys are the best !!!!

As previously mentioned everyone is different, but I love Sloppy Joes and I
too had them for dinner the other day. Must have been a SJ week! :-) I use
the canned Manwich and have used the packets before too. Never had a
problem with either. Good luck to you! :-)

I'm not sure of the sugar content b/c I don't have a can in the house to
look at. (Haven't bought the stuff in years since the kids hate it) but you
may want to call a friend that may have it, or a grocery store, and kindly
ask them to look at the label for you to see the sugar content. Also,
before sampling your coworkers dish, find out what kind of meat she used to
prepare it...whether it's ground tureky, the extra lean ground beef, or the
higher fat content cheap stuff. Wish I could be of more help!

My advice is to bring something yourself that you KNOW you can eat, that
way you will have something to enjoy with everyone. That's what I do!

We have sloppy joes once in a while. I am three years post op and can eat
it without bread. I eat very little. Sometimes I eat it with crackers most
time I eat it alone. If you are not sure just eat a little see how you feel
once you finish and go from there.

I just had Manwich about 2 nights ago. I have mine "open faced"
and eat it with a fork. I also melt a slice of cheese on top. I can eat 1/2
of a bun this way. It goes down really easily and I have not had a problem
at all. Because it's moist, it goes down really easily. Shelley

I love sloppy joes but unfortunatly i can only eat about 1tbs because for
some reason it makes me feel very yucky. but it seems that most people are
eating it with no problem.
