Question:
2 months out down only 24 lbs, why am I losing so slow??
I will be 2 mos out June 4, I lost 14 of the 24 lbs in 10 days which means I have lost only 10 lbs since April 14th? I am so discouraged and depressed I am ready to just throw in the towel and go back to my old ways, I had this surgery for all the right reasons, I have followed the rules as much as possible ( I eat more than most, but I am eating the right things and only eat when hungry) Has anybody else lost this slow if so was there a problem with the surgery? Any answers would be appreciated. Thanks — Melissa S. (posted on June 2, 2003)

I was there...don't know if you're a lightweight or not, that could make a
difference. I, however, was not. Started at 317 and was only down 24 lbs.
after 2 months. Am now approaching 4 months and am down 50. It WILL come
off...hang in there!

Hi Melissa,
I am 3.5 months post op and I am only down 41 pounds. I was not a light
weight and I am losing very slowly. I to think I can eat more than others
and sometimes I do, but I can't believe that I am not losing faster than I
am. I had several plateaus early on and still have them often. I eat
carbs minimally. I was very depressed about my slow loss but I realized
that I could never lose this much weight this fast. My hubby had the
surgery on the same day and he never gets hungry, never really wants to eat
and he has lost 65 pounds. I know men lose faster, I just can't understand
it.
I am diabetic and had high blood pressure as well. My blood pressure is
normal and I am off all diabetes medicines so that is reason enough for me
to keep trying. I have far more energy and feel better overall. I hope my
weight loss picks up but if I lose slowly, at least I am losing. They say
it will come off, we just have to work harder.
Do you feel like you are depriving yourself of food? Sometimes I do and
that makes me depressed.
If you'd like to email me at [email protected] we can try to try to give
each other some emotional support. I don't know about you, but most days I
really need that.
It will come off...that has become my mantra. God Bless you and keep
working, it has to happen.

Hello - you didn't say whether or not you are exercising. Not only will it
help yu lose pounds and inches, you'll feel a lot better.
I had surgery 4/7/03 and was 235 lbs 5'2". I'm 8 weeks out as of today
and have lost 40 lbs. After the inital big drop, I've been averaging about
3 lbs per week. I work out 5 days per week at the gym doing 45 minutes of
cardio on the elliptical machine, a little bit of weight training, plus I
walk 2-3 miles several times per week. All this exercise and you'd think
I'd be losing faster, but 3 lbs a week seems to be what I have settled at.

Hi, 5/18 made my 3 month anniversary and I am only 42lbs down. I was so
frustrated initially but the inches were going down a lot. I have gone
down from a size 30/32 to a size 22/24 which makes me feel a whole lot
better. I started out at 287lbs the day of surgery and I now weigh 243lbs.
I feel great, I no longer have to take Diabetic medications and I have a
lot more energy. I walk for an hour 3-5 times a week but I am struggling
to get in adequate protein and water. I'd like for it to come off faster
but when I think about how much more healthy I am, it makes me feel
better.

Melissa, no profile to go to and get a clue to help you out. Try posting
on your profile what you are eating, how much, are you getting in enough
water daily, are you exercising, grazing, carbs, sugars? You say that you
follow the rules as much as possible..what does that mean besides eating
more than most?? The answer may just be that as a lightweight (are you
one?), your loss is slow and you will eventually get there- slow but
steady-or there could be another reason. Please provide more info so that
we can guide and help you. You can also E-mail me off line.

You need to tell us more, like what your eating and exercising. I was on a
plateau at 4 week and just broke it at 7 week I acutally gained 3 pounds
during weeks 5-7. I was excersising 1-1.5 miles a day. But I found out that
I was eating to may carbs. Fruit is loaded with carbs. I cut out all white
starches and fruit for a while. Upping my vitamin C... and I lost 9 lbs
this past weekend.. Let us know what your diet is and we might be able to
suggest a sollution.. Keep in mind that everyone is different Many people
lose very slow. Hang in there..
